How to Make Custom Roll Labels for Jars and Bottles: A Buyer's Guide

Why Roll Labels Are the Go-To for Jars and Bottles

Roll labels come wound on a continuous roll instead of flat sheets, which matters once you are labeling more than a handful of units. They feed through tabletop applicators smoothly, and even applied by hand they peel off the liner fast without curling.

For most small batch producers, roll labels hit the sweet spot between cost and speed. You are not paying for individual die-cut sheets, and you are not stuck reprinting a whole batch if your run size grows.

Sizing and Shape for Round Containers

Start by measuring the diameter of your jar or bottle at the spot where the label will sit, not the widest point of the container. A label cut exactly to that measurement will look tight; most brands go slightly smaller than the circumference so the label wraps without wrinkling at the seam.

For lids and caps, round roll labels are the simpler choice: they are cut as circles instead of wraps, so there is no seam to worry about. A common setup is a round label on the lid plus a wraparound roll label on the body for the main branding.

Material Choices: White BOPP, White Poly or White Paper

Our roll labels come in white BOPP, white poly and white paper. BOPP and poly are plastic films: they handle condensation on cold drinks, steam from hot sauce jars and greasy fingers far better than paper, which matters if your product is a body oil, a salad dressing or anything kept in the fridge.

BOPP or poly is the material we recommend by default for anything going in a fridge, freezer, bathroom or kitchen. White paper looks great on dry goods, but it softens and peels when it gets wet, so keep it for products that stay dry.

• Oil: BOPP and poly hold up better than paper on lotions, dressings and kitchen products
• Paper: best for dry goods kept at room temperature
• UV-stable inks so colors don't fade quickly in sunlight

White Roll Labels and Clear Options

White roll labels are the default for most brands because they give your colors full opacity and strong contrast, especially on dark glass or opaque plastic. If your logo has bold colors or fine detail, white backing keeps everything crisp.

Artwork Setup: Resolution, Bleed, and Getting a Clean Print

Set your file to 300 DPI at final print size. Anything lower and text or fine lines can look soft once printed, especially on smaller round labels where detail gets compressed. Design in CMYK color mode rather than RGB, since that is how the printing plates actually lay down ink, and it keeps your final colors closer to what you expect on screen.

Add at least 0.125 in of bleed around your design so there is no thin white edge if the cut shifts by a fraction of a millimeter, which is normal in die cutting. Before anything goes to print, we send a digital proof to approve so you can catch spelling errors, alignment issues, or color surprises while they are still easy to fix.
